Funding a library in Bali is as rewarding as it gets. Renovating, supplying and training schools is one of the best ways we can support literacy in Bali. Funders are invited to see the projects upon completion.

SDN Apuan

Project Type: Books purchase and mural Painting

About: This school has already benefited from funding to purchase books and furnture (thanks to donors Monica and Bridget). The needs just a paint job and final books to complete the library.

About: The elementary school is located in Penebel, in northern Tabanan. Like many others, the school has the building and the furniture, but has empty shelves. Bali Children’s Project has already given a small donation of books which the school was delighted to receive. A paint job and books would complete the library.

About: Tegaljadi already has a great building and furniture, so just needs a full supply of books and a mural wall painting to transform it into a fun and exciting reading place.

SDN Julah

About: Julah is located in one of the hilly villages surrounding Singaraja Bali. The existing library has little order and nowhere to sit. The books are typical of many libraries – heavy in text, without colour and not appropriate for elementary students.

SDN 1 Bungbungan

Project Type: Books purchase, furniture and mural painting

Percentage Complete: 100% – Project pending and due for January 2019

About: Ideally, Bungbungan needs completely new everything. The only thing in good condition is the physical building. The library is full of old bookcases, no where to sit and poor quality books.

This project has a student group who are planning to fund the renovation in January 2019.

SDN Bonyoh

Project Type: Mini renovation, plus full supplies

Percentage Complete: 0%

Remaining Costs: $4,000 USD

Students: 120

About: The building is in good condition, but has no ceiling. Builders are required to fix a new ceiling and broken parts of the building. Furniture, books and painting would complete the renovation.

 SDN Lembean

About: Books at Lembean are mostly over 20 years old and have been there since the school opened. Sadly it has had little funding so has fallen into disrepair. Lembean needs a new ceiling, wall repairs, windows and door replacement and of course new books and supplies.

About: The building is in bad condition but still operates as a library. It has holes in the roof and needs repairs to windows, doors and walls. The library needs fresh full supplies of books and furniture.

About: Bookcases and furniture cover up the walls of SDN Serai. The roof has holes in and the ceiling is made from bamboo leaves. It needs quite significant repairs as well as new books and furniture.

About: Peninjoan is an unusually large elementary school, that suffers from the same problem as others – a poor building condition and old, worn out books/furniture. This building has become a storeroom but we aim to renovate it and return it to glory as a library. It needs renovations to the roof, windows, walls and floor.

About: Pacung requires a full reconstruction of it’s library building. Inner walls will need removing, with the outside restructured. The building needs a new roof, ceiling, window and door frames. It has literally no useful books and old broken furniture.

About: The library at Gelagah Lingah was never properly completed. It is a very basic build, with no ceiling, a roof that could collapse and an awkward layout. This whole building needs a full renovation, which can cost up to $15,000 usd.
