Tunas Mekar Kindergarten

Project Type: Large renovation
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $20,350 USD

About

This kindergarten is the heart of its small village, offering the only opportunity for early education to 52 children. The school operates out of a single, aging building with just two classrooms and one outdoor toilet. Leaking roofs, damp and moldy walls, and rusty playground equipment present daily challenges for students and teachers alike.

With limited resources, the four dedicated teachers, earning only IDR 200,000 per month, strive to provide a nurturing learning environment. However, the lack of teaching supplies and basic classroom necessities hampers their efforts. The majority of families in the village are farmers and laborers, making it difficult to afford higher tuition fees, which are kept at just IDR 20,000 per child.

We aim to renovate the school building, improving classroom facilities, and creating a safe and stimulating playground for the children.

Songon Kindergarten

Project Type: New build

Remaining Costs: $36,500 USD

About

Nestled in a small village, this kindergarten is the sole source of early education for the community’s children. Operating in a deteriorating building originally constructed as a health center in 1980, the school faces immense challenges. With only two usable rooms, it struggles to accommodate the 88 students enrolled, often having to turn away over 15 children each year due to space constraints.

The building suffers from leaking roofs, peeling concrete walls, and mold, while the outdoor playground is rusty and unsafe. Despite these hardships, the five dedicated teachers persevere, earning just IDR 300,000 per month, while tuition fees remain at a modest IDR 20,000 per child. They have even taken it upon themselves to repaint the exterior to improve the environment.

Your support can help transform this school into a safe and inspiring place for children to learn and play. Join us in ensuring every child in this village has access to quality early education.

Nyang Kindergarten

Project Type: Renovation and Extension
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $24,000 USD

About

This kindergarten shares a site with the local primary school but operates from a small, outdated building—a former teacher’s residence. The facility includes just one main classroom, a tiny teacher’s office, and a restroom. Teachers hope to expand the building into an adjacent area where land is available, but their vision has yet to become a reality.

Established in 1982, this kindergarten holds an operational legal letter from the main educational department, ensuring it meets basic requirements. The school serves 40 young students, with four dedicated teachers earning just IDR 700,000 per month. Classes run from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Families from three surrounding Banjars rely on this kindergarten for early childhood education, but the limited space significantly hinders teaching and learning.

Sampa Kindergarten

Project Type: New Build Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $32,900 USD

About

For over 50 years, this kindergarten has served families from six nearby Banjars (small sub villages), welcoming children aged 4–6 to begin their educational journey. Most of the community works as fishermen, sellers, or laborers, and they rely on this school to give their children a strong start. The school operates in two small, deteriorating buildings that are part of the village office. One serves as a classroom and teacher’s office, while the other is an additional classroom. However, both buildings are in poor condition, with leaking and broken roofs, damaged windows, mold, and serious dampness. The outdoor playground is broken and rusted, and the school struggles with a lack of supplies, furniture, and teaching materials.

Despite these challenges, four dedicated teachers provide education to 59 children, earning just IDR 250,000 per month. Classes run from Monday to Saturday, 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

The school has land available to build a proper facility with the capacity to serve 50–60 students. A new building would provide a safe, healthy environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Semara Kindergarten

Project Type: New Build Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $34,300 USD

About

This school once had its own building near the local elementary school, but the structure is now too damaged to use. For a while, the students continued their education by borrowing the village hall (Balai Desa). However, the space was often unavailable due to cultural ceremonies and community events, causing frequent disruptions to their learning. Recently, the village hall became permanently unavailable, and the school has had to borrow a library room at a nearby elementary school. Now, 80 students are squeezed into one small room, making it difficult for both teaching and learning – not to mention a lack of supplies.

The school has land ready for a new building that can accommodate all 76 students, but they don’t have the resources to make it happen.

Your support can help these children finally have a safe and proper space to learn.

Kumara Dwipa Kindergarten

Project Type: Medium Renovation Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $15,000 USD

About

The school building appears to be in good condition in photographs. However, a direct visit reveals a different reality: 39 children learning in a damp, leaky classroom. The building lacks a ceiling, exacerbating the leaks, and creating an unsuitable learning environment. In addition to structural issues, the school suffers from a shortage of proper supplies, and the outdoor playground equipment is worn out and rusty. The majority of the villagers are farmers and laborers, making it difficult for the community to address these problems on their own.

Widya Kindergarten

Project Type: Medium Renovation Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $10,700 USD

About

The school building appears to be in good condition in pictures, but a direct visit reveals a different story. Forty children learn in a damp, leaky classroom without adequate educational materials, relying solely on writing and singing. The outdoor playground is worn out and rusty, adding to the challenges. As the only school in the village, it is a crucial institution for early education. The majority of villagers are farmers and craftsmen, which limits the community’s ability to improve the school’s conditions.

Abang Kindergarten

Project Type: Medium Renovation Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $19,000 USD

About

Our kindergarten operates within a single, partially completed building that houses two classrooms and an external toilet. The structure is unfinished due to financial constraints faced by the villagers, resulting in the absence of a ceiling and walls plagued with dampness and mold. The school also struggles with a lack of basic supplies and teaching equipment. Additionally, the playground equipment is old and rusted, posing safety hazards for the children. Despite these challenges, this kindergarten is the sole educational institution in the village, serving as a crucial foundation for early childhood education in the community.

Warangin Sari Kindergarten

Project Type: Medium Renovation Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $11,000 USD

About

Colourful paint can’t disguise the poor condition of this building. With paint peeling and severe roof damage from a particularly bad rainy season, this kindergarten is not suitable for children to learn. Poor initial building materials have left the building moldy and suffering from damp too. Together with hardly any supplies, children here can’t learn to their potential, with teachers helpless to change things.

Mekar Sari Kindergarten

Project Type: Large New Build Project
Percentage Complete: 0%
Remaining Costs: $30,000 USD

About

Every year, children from 331 families send their children to this kindergarten, which can’t truly be called a kindergarten as they have no building. They are using community building (known as a Balai Banjar) for running the classes. In rainy season, children cannot go to school and study because it is open sided and the whole place gets soaked. Furthermore, as a working Balai Banjar, when there are community activities such as a mass cremation ceremony, the school also closes. This Kindergarten has no proper supplies either and the standard of education is poor. The village has land available but they cannot afford to build a school. We aim to build this village a completely new kindergarten on this land.
