Brian Calaustro is on a mission to help fund a third Leonore G. Calaustro Learning Centre in Bali. After his wife passed away, Brian vowed to do all he could to help improve education for children – a cause that was close to Leonore’s heart.

Since then, Brian has funded two Learning Centres, which both opened in 2018. Now in 2019, Brian is fundraising again to create a new Learning Centre in memory of Leonore.

In Brian’s own words…

In June 2017, my wife Leonore Calaustro passed away after having been diagnosed earlier in the year with Leiomyosarcoma – a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Lee was a friend to many and a light in this world. To honor her, I worked with the Bali Children’s Project to construct what would become the first Leonore G. Calaustro Learning Centre which opened in February 2018. In October of the same year, with Lee’s family and friends we opened the second Leonore Learning Centre in the village of Perean. Today, close to two hundred children have access to new buildings with brand new books, computers and furniture. The pride that these children show in their new learning centre is truly a sight to see. Children’s education was a cause that my wife felt very strongly about and so I honor her by building these learning centres to give these children a place to further their education. Though these children may not have been able to meet my wife, they know that it is through her and the love that we all had for her that we complete these projects.

I’m fundraising to complete the third Leonore G. Calaustro Learning Centre in the Siakin area of Bali. This project will be a renovation of their unused teacher’s building which we will convert into a learning centre complete with new books and computers. Once finished, this will be the biggest Leonore Learning Centre to date and will be used by over three hundred students. We will also be providing a van to transport the children to school as many of the students must walk several kilometers in all weather to get to school.
