Senganan’s New Library
An end of year surprise came to children at SDN 6 Senganan Elementary School, as supporter Melanie donated to give the library a new paint job. Making libraries fun and inspiring places to be is so important in helping children read.
Senganan Library suffered a similar issue to many libraries in Bali; they had a decent building, but only 15+ year old books in a drab room. It was no wonder that the library was hardly used by students.
Libraries in Bali
With most children in Bali not owning any form of reading book at home, libraries are a gateway to new worlds of learning and imagination.
Although teachers had tried their best, they struggled to get children inspired. The tools they had to work with just weren’t good enough. The change for Senganan 6 actually started last year, when young supporter Anika donated her birthday present money to help buy library books. Further new books were supplied through a donation from Bali Public School. It enabled us to give the library new books, that saw an instant rise in children learning to read.
However, the room issue was still the same. It just wasn’t inspiring.
Donors to the Rescue
Having just helped Bali Children’s Project renovate a library at Apuan Elementary, our friends at Karma House introduced us to Melanie, who was also looking to help children in Bali.
With Melanie’s donation, we were able to hire a mural artist to inject life into the library. And that’s exactly what happened! Children couldn’t wait to access the library, even though their school term is officially over.
Thanks to the three separate donations from friends all over the world, SDN 6 Senganan Elementary is now far better off. The library has turned into a fun and engaging space for children to read and learn.
Senganan’s New Facility
Now, we have one final touch to make before the library is complete. Just 200 more books are needed to finish the library so that it is fully equipped. Thankfully, supporter Corrina has helped to give us the final push, with new books being delivered next week.
With the new school term due to start in July, SDN 6 Senganan has a fantastic new facility that gives children access to reading.
There are many more libraries in Bali needing help. If you can donate books or help us renovate, please get in touch.
Bali Children’s Project is proud to help schools and libraries improve, as well as showing donors exactly how their funds are spent. Please help us to transform more libraries in Bali.
