Welcome to Songan

Welcome to Songan Kindergarten. The broken down building that you see is the designated kindergarten building for Songan village, near to Mount Batur in north Bali. Songan village has been victim to plenty of bad luck, including a deadly landslide a in 2017. The bad luck seemed to continue as the kindergarten fell into disrepair.

It’s sad but true – the building was home to Songan Kindergarten for quite some time, however the school has now (thankfully) moved out. The situation still hasn’t gotten much better though. The kindergarteners are now learning outside, on the porch of the community building – known as the Balai Banjar.

Kindergartens in Bali aren’t part of the formal curriculum, meaning there’s no money to provide spaces, teachers and supplies. Villages like Songan understand the importance of early stage learning, so they do all they can to give young learners teachers and a space to learn. Despite the terrible learning conditions, the parents and community perservere and still send their students to school.

Karma Finally Arrives in Songan

Thanks to our friends at Karmagawa Songan’s fortunes are about to change. Songan Kindergarten will be the 16th school renovated thanks to the partnership between Bali Children’s Project and Karmagawa – and the 27th school by Bali Children’s Project.

Through the Schools Support program we renovate schools and turn them into incredible new learning spaces that communities can be proud of. You can see a list of our completed projects here or if you are thinking of helping to renovate a school, you can see just a few of the schools needing help on our Fund a School page.

Work begins now and we’re excited to see the transformation of a school in such great need. Once complete, even more parents will want to send their young learners to school and the village will finally have a learning facility to be proud of.

Stay tuned for more news and another new announcement on the way for Songan village.

Most kindergartens in Bali lack supplies and support. We are helping to improve the quality of education by providing these.

Bali Children’s Project is proud to help schools and libraries improve, as well as showing donors exactly how their funds are spent. Please help us to transform more schools in Bali.
