On January 24th, Bali Children’s Project had the afternoon that only dreams are made of – except this time it was real.
A community of chefs, restaurants, hotels and individuals hosted a collaborative chef’s charity lunch raising 227 million IDR for Bali Children’s Project.
The funds will help us to reach 8,000 students with our pioneering Child Proteciton Workshops.
10 Course Meal
Hosted at Ubud’s Aperitif fine dining restaurant, the 10 chefs from 9 different restaurants joined forces to deliver an afternoon of food and fundraising.
The chefs created a memorable afternoon with amazing food, but most importantly, all in aid of our work.
Restaurants represented were The StartLab, CasCades, Aperitif, Mozaic, Merah Putih, Mauri, KAUM, Sangsaka and MASON. Each chef delivered their own course, offering guests a rare opportunity to eat from Bali’s top restaurants all in one afternoon.
With the venue full of people, it was also an opportunity for Bali Children’s Project to showcase our work. We presented our 2019 Year Review video to show guests the breadth of our work.
Our sponsorship Manager Anastasia also had a special surprise in store for two children who were sponsored by funds raised from a previous chef’s fundraiser. The students were given a VIP tour of the premises and spoke of how their sponsorships have helped to keep them in school. Aptly, both students are majoring in Food and Beverages at their vocational high schools.

Fund Raising
All ticket prices went directly into the fundraising total, but that wasn’t the only way funds were raised.
An auction featuring more fine dining experiences, along with stays in five star hotels were featured prizes. Between courses, each item was auctions, which helped us to reach a grand total of 227,500,000 IDR.
From ticket sales to food ingredients, everything was donated, meaning the event incurred no expense and that 100% of funds raised could be donated.
How the Funding will Help
Raising such a tremendous amount marks a significant turning point for Bali Children’s Project, with the funding being used to double the impact of our Child Protection Program.
Launching in 2016 with a pilot project that visited two schools per month, the program was set up to deliver abuse awareness education to Bali’s youngsters.
It was in response to our own research which suggested that 90% of students in Bali are not aware of what constitutes abuse. Without the knowledge of what abuse is, students can find themselves in very real danger without even knowing it.
After support from the Mel Wolf Foundation, the Child Protection program was formalised and staff were hired. In 2019, we were able to reach 7,800 students with this program and over 100 schools.
With such success, our dreams had always been to grow the program – hiring more staff and more materials to deliver it. However, this could not be done without funding.
Now thanks to the funds raised at this event, we will be able to double the impact of this program, helping us to reach a further 7,800 students in new areas of Bali.
How you can Help
All of our programs operate based on the donations we receive. The more funding we raise, the more impact we can have.
It means that we are totally reliant on support from kind people throughout the world.
We invite individuals and businesses to become part of our work, whether it is funding even more Child Protection Workshops, sponsoring children for school or any of our other programs.
